Ecuador Is Safer Than Ever Now! Don’t listen to the online alerts blowing things out of proportion. Violence is only in the drug gang neighborhoods near Guayaquil on the coast, and in the prisons. Try to resist the urge to join a drug gang or do things that land you in prison, and you will be fine! The Quito, Guayaquil or Cuenca airports are very first world experiences. Retreats have been unaffected. It is perfectly safe and peaceful here! You won’t be anywhere near the places where there is trouble.
